Eat for Change - Fundraiser April 24th 4 to 8 pm

Grab your dinner at Chipotle in Clackamas Town Center Monday 4/24 and Pay it Forward to exploited children

Clackamas, Lake Oswego, Milwaukie have all been in the news in recent years for youth recruited for sex trafficking; the communities forever altered with the knowledge that predators are in their purview.

A Village for One is a Portland OR based non profit organization serving children who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation. The statistics are unbearable to read; much less experience or support personally.  The average age of entry into child sex trafficking is 11-14 years old. Department of Human Services (DHS) & the Sexual Assault Resource Center identified 469 children as victims of child sex trafficking in Portland during 2010-2013. The youngest victim in services was 8 years old!

A Village for One works hands on with children rescued from sex traffickers. What are the ramifications of being in a traumatic environment?  Kaiser Permanente and the Centers for Disease Control performed the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study.  Documentation was created linking the relationship of exposure to childhood traumatic stressors with numerous negative health behaviors and outcomes, along with predictors of overall health status as adults.  Childhood traumatic events is a major public health problem in the United States. Repeating interactions of interpersonal violence, abuse, neglect, abrupt separation or traumatic loss leave emotional and physical scars that affect the child for years.

For example, people who had experienced four or more ACEs had four- to twelve-fold increased health risks for alcoholism, drug abuse, depression and suicide attempt. The white paper  available at http://www.childrenscenter.cc/p/our-services/oregon-aces Indicates $millions are necessary to treat adolescents and adults with life long issues as the aftermath of their ACEs.

Bring a copy of the photo, or have the promotional photo on your smartphone between 4 pm and 8 pm on Monday, April 24th at Clackamas Town Center’s Chipotle location and indicate your purchase is for A Village for One.  See you there!
