Quilt Raffle Winner Announced

Transcript of Live Event. It's November 21, 2020 at 7:06 p.m. My name is Pam Banning, and I currently serve as treasurer for Soroptimist of Lake Oswego/West Linn under President LJ Baiz and Vice President Ruth McKay.

Welcome to Soroptimist International of Lake Oswego West Linn’s 1st virtual Quilt raffle! Soroptimist International is a global volunteer network of women in over 130 countries and territories who work to improve the lives of women and girls. Soroptimist means “best for women”. Our mission is to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

Our own club just celebrated our 10th birthday. In those 10 years of serving our local population of women and girls, we have donated over $28,000 to community agencies, as well as given cash Live Your Dream Education and Training Awards totaling nearly $27,000  to 18 women in post high school education.

The proceeds of this raffle is dedicated to the local non-profit A Village for One. A Village for One is a Portland based not-for-profit organization developed to serve children who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation. An astounding number of youth in the Portland and surrounding areas have experienced this global crime against children. You can find out more about their mission and fantastic work at avillageforone.org

They’ve recently opened a residential facility for their clients, called Anisa’s Place. One of our charter club members, Hollis Davis, undertook the task of creating six handmade lap quilts, each unique and matching the décor of each resident’s bedroom to have and snuggle. It is hers to keep, with Hollis’s hope tucked in that the young woman has a lasting feeling of safeness. Hollis has committed to having replacement quilts made after a resident leaves the facility, for the incoming resident. We’ll be putting up an article on FB and our website shortly on it.

Very special thanks to charter club member Gail Holmes, who created this queen size quilt with flannel backing. We appreciate her skills in designing and donating this beautiful quilt so very much!!

We sold 188 of the 250 raffle chances. Our goal was to donate $1,000 to A Village for One. Their founder Cassie Trahan mentioned to Hollis at the residents’ lapquilts delivery that with the additional safety concerns of the pandemic, this is a much needed addition to their budget. We couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you! Thank you; much gratitude.

We will continue with additional fundraisers; like us on Facebook or stay in touch through email or our website soroptimistlowl.org . You’re welcome to come join us at meetings as a club member! Donations are always appreciated to help us with our giving plans, through the website or via check.

The winner is << KIM MCKAY>>

Thank you again for all your support. Please have a safe and happy Thanksgiving this next week with your loved ones. Good night.
