Club gears up for #GivingTuesday December 1, 2020

December 1, 2020 will be our 3rd campaign of fundraising in 2020. Did you know the history of #GivingTuesday?

In 2012, the teams at 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation created Giving Tuesday as a philanthropic response to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday was originally branded “#GivingTuesday” with a hashtag, since the collaborative power and reach of social media was a driving force behind growing an idea with a somewhat local focus, into an international day of giving.

Each year since its inception, Giving Tuesday has set new records with its exponential growth. Now in its eighth year, Giving Tuesday is bigger than ever and shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, Giving Tuesday is now the second-largest giving day of the year, runner-up to December 31.

The club is accepting donations of all increments in order to fund our awards to local non-profits serving women and children in need, as well as our cash education awards to women seeking post high school degrees. Over the last 10 years, we have given $28,355 to community non-profits and $26,850 to 18 women working on college diplomas or votech credentials. Our local club is one of 2100 across the global in over 130 countries and territories. We consist of women in all walks of life; we are like-minded in wanting to help others around us.

Donations are accepted through checks mailed to SI LOWL, PO Box 285, Marylhurst, OR 97036 or online at

Soroptimist International of Lake Oswego/West Linn is a 501(c3) non profit. We will issue a tax-deductible receipt for your donation. Thank you in advance for your assistance!
